Iphone 12 Mini Purple Review – Looks Lavender

by edward

Each year the excitement seems to build for the next iPhone release which is evident by the more than 1 Billion active iPhones in the world and 200 million iPhones sold in 2020 alone!  The demand for a faster processor, better camera, and higher resolution seems to be never-ending, and while phones have gotten larger over the years, there has been a growing demand for a more compact phone with the latest specs, all without too much compromising on battery life.  Has Apple met this demand with the iPhone 12 Mini?

Intro To The Iphone 12 Mini

As the name would entail, the iPhone 12 mini is smaller than its other iPhone 12 counterparts.  In fact, the iPhone 12 mini is the smallest phone Apple has produced since iPhone 5S.  However, you get the same capacity (storage) options between the iPhone 12 Standard and iPhone 12 mini, 5G accessibility, and the new A14 Bionic chip that is found in the iPhone 12 Standard and the iPhone 12 Pro.  Furthermore, when comparing the iPhone 12 mini to the regular iPhone 12 all the specs are nearly identical except for the size of the device.

This article will discuss, in greater detail, the iPhone 12 mini display specs and benefits as well as the camera specs and benefits a little further down, but here are some other comparisons the iPhone 12 mini has compared to the iPhone 12 Standard and iPhone Pro 12.

Price: The iPhone 12 mini retails starting at $699 compared to $799 for the standard and $999 for the Pro

Size: At 5.4”, the iPhone 12 mini is 0.7” smaller than the standard and pro versions at 6.1”.

5G: All three iPhone 12 sizes have 5G technology that allows for super-fast downloads and higher quality streaming due to lower latency.  It is important to note that the mobile providers are just now rolling out 5G which will take at least a couple of years before the majority of the USA has access to it.

A14: Apple is calling the A14 Bionic chip the fastest chip in any smartphone.  You will find the A14 chip in all three iPhone 12 models.

Battery:  Anytime you start talking about making a phone smaller, you begin to worry about the battery life.  The iPhone 12 mini is no different.  While it packs a robust “up to 15 hours of video playback” on a full charge, that is 2 hours shorter than both the iPhone 12 Standard and iPhone 12 Pro.

Face ID: All three models use the Face ID technology that we have become accustomed to.

Casing: All iPhone 12 models have the same “ceramic shied front” that is supposed to have up to 4x better drop performance.  Both the iPhone 12 Standard and iPhone 12 mini have Aerospace-grade aluminum while the iPhone 12 Pro has the upgraded Surgical-grade stainless steel.

Water test: The iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Standard, and the iPhone 12 mini all are water-resistant to a depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes.

Wireless Chargers:   All three iPhone 12 models are compatible with MagSafe accessories and wireless chargers.  However, many are reporting that the iPhone 12 mini takes longer to charge wirelessly than the iPhone 12 Pro and Standard.

Capacity:  As referenced above, both the iPhone 12 Standard and the iPhone 12 mini share the same capacity options of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.  The iPhone 12 Pro has increased capacity at 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options.

As you can see from the specs above, the iPhone 12 mini shares most of the same specs as the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Standard.  However, the one feature the iPhone 12 mini has over its counterparts is that it is the only phone in the iPhone 12 lineup that comes in the color Purple, and the only iPhone in existence with this color of purple!

Why Purple Is a Great Color

Although Apple has introduced a purple option in previous phones, this purple hits differently!  The overwhelming reviews on the color are that people love the iPhone 12 mini purple, with Cnet stating the iPhone 12 (mini) new purple color is pastel perfection!  Even though most love the purple color, you will find many debates on the actual color.  Some call it lavender when others think it is more violet and even lilac color with Forbes calling it “punchier and more dramatic than 11”.  Since the new iPhone 12 mini in purple was just released at the end of April, it is too early to know just how many have been sold, but if social sentiment is any sign, the iPhone 12 mini in purple will be a huge success!

Now that we have talked about how excited people are over the purple, let’s dive a bit deeper into the display and camera specs of the iPhone 12 mini.

Iphone 12 Mini Display Specs & Benefits

The iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch all-screen OLED, which is the same screen material in the iPhone 12 Pro and Standard.  All three models utilize the HDR display but the iPhone 12 mini has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixel at 476 PPI.  While the PPI is higher on the iPhone 12 mini, compared to the iPhone 12 Pro and Standard, the latter both showcase a 2532 x 1170 pixel.

All three models also have “True Tone Display”, a Wide color display, and Haptic Touch.  When comparing the typical brightness, the iPhone 12 mini and Standard both have the 625 nits max brightness whereas the iPhone 12 pro displays 800 nits max brightness.  However, all three models share the same HDR brightness of 1200 nits.

Iphone 12 Mini Camera Specs & Benefits

When comparing camera specs between iPhone 12 Pro, Standard, and Mini, all three have Ultra-Wide and Wide lenses.  The iPhone mini also shares the same Optical zoom range with the iPhone 12 Standard at 2x optical zoom.

Reasons To Go With Purple

Whether you love the color purple or you just like to stand out from the crowd, the new Iphone 12 mini purple is awing a lot of tech reviewers.  Since the color purple is the latest to be released, you can showcase your new iPhone 12 mini in purple and have your friends envy you!

Final Thoughts

When you compare the specs on the Iphone 12 Mini to the Iphone 12 Pro and Standard, they are nearly identical but in a more compact phone.  Although you do have a slightly lower battery life, at 15 hours of video playback you should be able to get through the whole day without having to charge your phone.  Therefore, you will have similar specs all while coming in $100 and $200 cheaper than the Standard and Iphone 12 Pro models.  If you want to take your style a step further, you can now purchase the new purple that is only available on the Iphone 12 mini!
